Back in December and January, I traveled to Peru for two weeks. The trip included several days in the Amazon basin, a week in the Andes mountains, and then a few days on the Pacific coast. As you can guess, it was a pretty incredible trip. It was also too great to talk about in just one post, so in this post I’ll focus on the first part: four days in the Amazon rainforest.
Scuba Trip: San Carlos, Mexico (August 2019)
Back in August, I went to San Carlos, Mexico, one of my favorite places to dive. I certified a couple friends as PADI Advanced Open Water divers on the trip, and also had time for a fun dive at the end. Here’s a quick recap of the trip.
Scuba Trip: Bangka and Lembeh, Indonesia (July-August 2019)
This summer, I was lucky enough to return to North Sulawesi for a week and a half of diving. I had been to Lembeh last summer, and this time I returned to the island for an underwater photography workshop. I also made a point to visit Bangka, another nearby island I hadn’t been to before, on my trip.
Scuba Diving in Rapa Nui (Easter Island)
Back in June, I had the amazing opportunity to go to Rapa Nui (known in the US as Easter Island) as a faculty lead on a study abroad trip. I’ve had a crazy semester and am way behind on writing blog posts, so I’m going to try to start catching up. First up: a bit more about Rapa Nui, this time focusing on my experience scuba diving there.
Spring Break Scuba Trip to Florida
This year, my sister and I decided to meet in South Florida during my spring break. She and her boyfriend live in New England and needed a break from the cold, and I wanted to teach them to scuba dive, so Florida was an obvious choice.
Sea Urchin Sting in Hawai’i
Back in December when I went to Hawai’i, I did something really stupid. I wasn’t paying attention while taking underwater photos, and got stung by a sea urchin.
Scuba Trip: San Carlos, Mexico (October 2018)
Last weekend, I went to San Carlos, Mexico to scuba dive for the 4th time this year. Read on for a recap of the trip.
Work and Scuba Trip: Jakarta and Lembeh, Indonesia (August 2018)
Back in August, I was lucky enough to travel to Jakarta, Indonesia for work. Since I’m on an academic-year contract, I was also able to stay for a while after the work was finished. This gave me the opportunity to explore a bit more of the country before the new semester started. Here, I’ll give a quick recap of the trip and more importantly, share some photos!
Scuba Trip: San Carlos, Mexico (July 2018)
This summer, I taught two summer session courses during the University of Arizona’s first summer session (June 4-July 5). Teaching two classes in one summer session is tough, as each is two hours a day plus prep.
Scuba Trip: San Carlos, Mexico (June 2018)
I am WAY behind on things I want to write about and post here, so I’m going to keep this post short and to the point. In June I went back to San Carlos for some diving, with two of my friends who I went with in April. Here’s a recap, and more importantly, photos.
Scuba Trip: Utila and Roatan, Honduras
Back in May, I spent three weeks on Honduras’ Bay Islands. I spent the first 2 weeks becoming a PADI scuba instructor, but after the course and exams were over, I needed a break! Fortunately, I was already in paradise so all I needed to do was get underwater. In this post, I’ll recap my fun dive portion of the trip, which included 1 day of diving in Utila and 3 days of diving in Roatan.
PADI Instructor Development Course in Utila, Honduras
For the past year, my goal has been to become a PADI open water scuba instructor (OWSI). Two weeks ago, I completed the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) and Instructor Exam (IE) in Utila, Honduras, and now I’m finally an instructor! In this post, I’ll recap the IDC and IE.
